Gosport Marine Festival is going ahead on Saturday 20th May 2023 with support from Gosport Borough Council and Hampshire County Council. This free festival aims to make the most out of the town’s marine location, heritage and culture by providing a fun day of activities, entertainment and exhibitors.
Given the background of a cost-of-living crisis and the recent cancellation of other events in Gosport, the future of this festival which has run every other year since 2015 was far from secure. Through hard work by volunteers, grants and fundraising efforts have resulted in awards and support from Gosport Borough Council, Hampshire County Council and local marine businesses.
The day’s organisation and entertainment centres around the Millennium Timespace performance area, a stone’s throw from Gosport town centre and ferry with views of Portsmouth Harbour. On the water activities for 6 to 12 year olds take place in the safety of the Cockle Pond within Walpole Park and over 12s take to the water within Haslar Marina.
A range of vessels moored at the marina will be open to the public on static display and there are opportunities for families and wheelchair users to venture out onto the sea. An art show, crafting sessions and exhibitors within Trinity Church and on the surrounding green provide link us to our marine heritage and culture.
